Is your song ready to record?
That is the question most songwriters sit with longest. A finished lyric, a melody you believe in, a scratch demo recorded on your phone — but no way to know whether it is ready for a proper production, or whether it needs more work first.
The free appraisal is here to answer that. Jonathan listens to what you send and gives you a straight response: what is working, what might need attention, and whether the song is ready to record. No sales pitch. If the song needs more time, he will say so.
What happens if the song is ready?
If Jonathan's view is that the song is ready to record, the next step is straightforward. Premier Song Production records demos for songwriters worldwide, starting at £235 for vocals, acoustic guitar and piano, or £389 for a full band production with drums, guitars, bass, keys and vocals.
Several clients have used a Premier-produced demo to approach publishers. At least one received a request for more material.
If your song needs a composer — you have lyrics but no melody — the studio's co-writing service can write the music to your words, with a 50/50 publishing split and no AI involved.
Pitch songs to publishers
A professionally produced demo is the standard way to pitch songs to music publishers and record labels. Publishers need to hear the song performed well enough to imagine it in a finished state. A scratch demo recorded on a phone rarely gets a serious response.
If the appraisal confirms the song is ready, a Premier-produced demo gives it the best chance of being taken seriously. Jonathan can also advise on which publishers or contests are worth approaching for your kind of song, based on two decades of working in the industry.
Remember no publisher will consider an AI based demo.

Is the song appraisal really free?
Yes. There is no charge and no obligation. Jonathan listens to what you send and writes back with his honest view. If you decide to record with the studio afterwards, that is your choice.
What should I send?
A voice memo or scratch demo is enough — it does not need to be a polished recording. Include your lyrics if you have them written out. A phone note recorded at home is fine. Jonathan is listening to the song, not the production quality of the scratch demo.
How long does the appraisal take?
Usually a few working days. During busy periods it may take a little longer, and Jonathan will let you know.
Can I send more than one song?
Send your best one first. If you have a second song you are unsure about, mention it in the message and Jonathan will advise whether to send it too.
